Solent Sailing Experience

This is an amazing chance to experience what life is like aboard a real around the World Ocean Race Yacht. At 60ft long, Clipper 60 Mermerus is a heavy weight Ocean Racer, designed specifically to compete in the original Clipper Race and now a veteran of 4 circumnavigations.
This proven boat has sailed every ocean and been out in the worst weather that can be thrown at her showing the remarkable strength and design,  which is why the original Clipper Race yachts gained a reputation for being the 4x4 of the Ocean Racing World. Maybe not fast in comparison to today's ultra light carbon flyers, but strong, steady and safe.
Now commercially coded to carry passengers by the MCA, she has been fully refitted and updated but kept as original as possible allowing you to join us to experience what life was like for the 15 crew aboard these remarkable craft.
Arrive around 9:30 and check in ready for the day before gathering in our coffee shop over looking the boats with views across the Solent. At 10am you are taken down to the boat for a safety brief and introduction to how the boat works and her history. It’s then all hands on as we rig the boat and slip lines for the short motor heading out of the River Hamble towards the central Solent.
Everything aboard is manually operated, from winches for the sheets to hoisting the sails, so you are guaranteed a hands on experience. If you’d rather sit back and watch, we also have areas aboard where you can take a less active role in the day - although we usually find people like to get stuck in and we can find jobs for almost all abilities!
It’s definitely a full day of sailing, usually covering plenty of miles with a fair wind and tide. The course for the day varies on the wind direction, tides and density of the traffic on the Solent, but sailing from the Hamble you will really get a chance to be amongst it all in the most popular sailing location in the UK.
